What Shoes To Wear With Khaki?

I can't go on and on about how khaki without proposing some solutions to the shoe problem. It wouldn't be responsible. Not the done thing.

Because khaki was, originally, military, I recommend that you stay away from navy. Stay away from green. Shun primaries. Shoes with reddish undertones look best, brown, purple, oxblood. Metallic sandals in the right context (see?). And black. Nothing sharper than a pair of black shoes with khaki. For work, black perfect loafers, khaki pants, black alligator belt, black cashmere top. Sharp. Makes my mouth water to think about it.

Black with khaki! I was always too afraid to do that combo. I usually just stick to white with it and a really neutral shoe. I may have to think my lack of kahki pants.

"Shoes with reddish undertone..."
Have to keep this in mind. Definitely like some color with my khaki!

What I have is a correct wardrobe. It's very small, but it's correct. Once I start working full time again, we may have space for recreational wardrobing. And BTW, navy jackets with khaki, yes. Just shoes are a no unless you like the military feel. In which case, epaulets my friend!

I love khaki. It's so versatile.

(Your mention of epaulets above... let's just say I saluted.)

Oh no, it's the metallic sandal issue again! (Heh-heh.) Methinks we need "The Privileged Guide to Life" in hardcover soon. The Illustrated version.

Seriously.

I think it depends on the navy shoe?? I love my navy strappy heels (J Crew Dorie/Nicolette) & several pairs of ballet flats. I love them & have never thought twice about wearing with khakis. That's what makes fashion fun. We are all a little different. I don't know if there are any strict rules.

Khaki - such a wardrobe staple. Love the idea of the alligator belt and cashmere sweater - it almost makes me want for fall to return!

:). Yes, even the Privileged Guide To Life concurs that there are no set rules. I'm just explicating the values and aesthetics and experiences of a particular High WASP subset.

I am all about pairing black or gold with navy. I also think navy looks fabulous too. A khaki skirt with a white blouse, a navy sweater around your shoulders and navy flats is tres chic I think!

The reddish shoes remind me of the old Etienne Aigner days. They did look good with khaki. But, I also think that wearing dark navy shoes is a very acceptable up-scale look, too. I love to wear a pale pink or blue shirt with khakis and navy shoes. And I agree, no primary colors.

Lindy, I wanted to let you know, I am really enjoying your comments. I too remember Etienne Aigner. For me the dark navy shoes would depend on the style of the pants, I think.
